Compare fixed costs by age
Age does not determine your fixed costs, but spending patterns differ by life stage. Compare your share with the latest specific CBS measurement.
What does age say about fixed costs?
In 2010 CBS counted rent or imputed rent, water and energy, insurance and levies, and consumption taxes as fixed costs. Households under 45 spent an average 30.1% of total expenditure on them. The share was 33.5% for ages 45 to 64 and 39.7% for ages 65 and over.
These percentages are not budgeting targets. Tenure, household size and income matter greatly, while prices and contracts have changed since 2010. Use the comparison to review your own costs, not as a verdict on what you should pay.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the tool use 2010 figures?
This is the latest public CBS release that breaks down fixed costs by age using one clear definition. Newer figures cover broader spending categories and are not directly comparable.
What counts as a fixed cost?
For this comparison we follow CBS: housing, water and energy, insurance and levies, plus consumption taxes. You may include subscriptions that cannot be changed quickly.
Why compare with spending rather than income?
The CBS source published fixed costs as a share of total expenditure. Comparing them with net income would use a different measure and produce a misleading result.
